Applications for funding can be submitted again in 2024. In this way, the Free State of Bavaria is once again paving the way for digitization for many companies. Many innovative projects have already been funded and are successfully being used. Even for supposedly small projects, the digital bonus is suitable to relieve small and medium-sized companies. It pays to be quick, because the digital bonus was temporarily discontinued the year before last and can suddenly be dropped again this year.

The amount of the digital bonus depends largely on the size of the company and the scope of the project. The Free State distinguishes between different projects. On the one hand, projects that optimise processes and promote digitalisation are funded with the Digitalbonus Standard. A large number of projects can be implemented with it. On the other hand, up to €50,000 will be awarded for particularly innovative projects in order to promote innovation in companies. No matter which digital bonus is ultimately chosen, companies benefit demonstrably and sustainably from the new and modern solutions.

The Digitalbonus Plus supports particularly innovative projects with up to €50,000.

The digital bonus is granted to small and medium-sized enterprises in Bavaria. Companies with fewer than 50 employees and an annual turnover and a balance sheet total of less than 10 million euros receive 50% funding. In this way, the Free State is trying to provide an attractive incentive for the digitization of small companies, which often do not know that their day-to-day business can be significantly facilitated by digital solutions.


Unfortunately, all freelancers, such as doctors, lawyers, notaries, engineers, architects, auditors, tax consultants and alternative practitioners, are excluded. In addition, your company must not be in insolvency proceedings or your company must not meet the requirements provided for by German law for the opening of insolvency proceedings at the request of creditors.

Which projects are eligible for funding is independent of the size of the company. As well as the costs for the funded project, which must be at least €4,000 in any case. The number of possible applications is also the same for every company: The Digitalbonus Plus can only be submitted once. For the Digital Bonus Standard, one application for digitization and one application for IT security can be submitted.

A small company with 30 employees and an annual turnover of 5 million euros, which wants to have its customer file, for example, digitized. The aim is to make it easier to manage customers through digitization. This project would receive 50% funding from the digital bonus. If, for example, an amount of 16,000 euros is set up for the programming, setup and maintenance costs of the CRM for three years, the small company would receive a subsidy of 8,000 euros from the Free State as part of the digital bonus. The company would have to bear the remaining 8,000 euros independently.

The digital bonus is very popular for good reason and the funding pots are limited. So watch out! Since the middle of last year, there has been a monthly contingent of applications in order to continue to ensure a steady funding process despite many requests. If the application quota for one month has been exhausted, you can only submit your application from the first of the next month. But don’t worry, digital application forms that have already been entered and filled out will not be lost. Completed forms can be cached before the final submission, so they can be easily resubmitted at the beginning of the next month.
